Merge tags are used to customize an email per address for further email engagement. The most common uses of merge tags is to greet your subscribers by first name (ie Dear Amy....) or to issue a customer a presale code.
Merge tags are placeholders/variables to represent contact data stored in the Activity Stream database or in your CSV file (if you uploaded a CSV file).
If you export a segment directly from the Activity Stream platform, these are the main Merge Tags you will find in the TEXT section:
Click on the merge tags you would like to include, and once the email is created, the merge tags will customise the campaign, pulling the information (such as First Name, Last Name, etc) from the customer account and into the campaign.
You can also import a custom merge tag. In your CSV, include a column with your custom merge tags and a matching row header. After you import your CSV, select the columns to import and be sure to choose your custom merge tag column. Drag into into the merge tag field.
In the Design tab of the Email Campaign builder, you may now choose any of the standard merge tags as shown above, or your new custom merge tag.
The standard merge are available in the Activity Stream database. If you don't have all of them it is likely your ticketing platform does not provide us with that information or your uploaded CSV file does not contain the information.
A note about First and Last Name: If you would like to upload an external CSV file to use in an email campaign, and would like to customise the email with First Name and Last Name, make sure you have the column firstName and lastName and the first two columns in your CSV.
