Basics: Preference Center

Do you want to increase the relevance of your communication? Do you want to reduce your unsubscribes? To create specific lists that subscribers can sign up to?

Our Preference Center does that... And more! You can find the Preference Center in the Tools section by selecting Opt-in Management.

Our newest feature allows you to tailor the way people sign up and unsubscribe from lists. So next time rock-loving fans can just sign up to your rock concert lists, and not get annoyed by emails that are irrelevant for them. At the same time, we can reduce the unsubscribes: when already subscribed opera-loving Jack gets another rock newsletter, they can adjust their preferences instead of unsubscribing.

Fully customizable Preference Center and confirmation page

Using the same editor that you use to set up emails, you can now create a fully branded preference center and confirmation page, including images, video, texts and everything else you know from the editor. It’s linked to your email editor, so you can reuse existing blocks and images saved in the media library.

Manage topics and hide the ones you don’t want people to see

When visiting Opt-in management on the Tools menu, you can see all the topics that are listed in the Preference Center, and change their customer-facing names and add a short description, change the order or mark topics as hidden.

Hidden topics will only be visible to those that are on the list, in other words, a VIP will only see the VIP topic if they are on that list.

😎 Pro tip: Besides the usual genre preferences, topics can also be used for “last minute offers” and similar lists that you can use to set up highly targeted, highly relevant campaigns without hitting your whole database.

Build lists from lead generation campaigns

Many clients use topics for lead-generation campaigns, and guiding customers to landing pages for upcoming shows or special offers. You can still use forms and topics for these, if you don’t add the topic to the Opt-In Management tool, they won’t show in the Preference Center - only on your own list selector.

Now we have a few guidelines and ideas for you to explore this new feature:

  1. When the dashboard is opened for the first time, our backend service will generate the Topic information from your platform database. So if you're already using topics they are automatically loaded. 😎 Then you can edit the description and display name of each topic, and add more.

  2. Each topic can be reordered using the 6-dot icon on the right by drag and drop. This will affect how the topics are displayed on the Preference Center page.

  3. Deleting topics through Topic Management does not delete topics from existing opt-ins. It only removes the topic from the Preference Center checkbox group.

  4. The visible icon can be toggled to hide topics from the dashboard for those not already subscribed to them. They will still be displayed for those who are so they can unsubscribe from those lists. This is handy for VIP lists and other lists that you don’t want users to be able to opt-in to but want to be able to unsubscribe from. If you do not want people to be able to unsubscribe from certain lists, do not include them in your Preference Center.

  5. The edit button allows you to edit the topic’s display name and description. This does not affect the internal name for the topic (as it is displayed to Activity Stream campaign users) which cannot be edited.

  6. The Add Topic button allows you to create new topics that will be displayed on the Preference Center.

  7. The Preference Center editor allows you to customize how the preference center page looks per platform.

  8. You can create draft designs by editing the name of the design and clicking Save Draft. You can set the draft as the actual design by clicking the Save Design & Set As Current button.

  9. A default design is provided for those who have not customized their own. You don't have to edit the default design if you don’t want to.

  10. The newsletter preference design (1) must contain Topic checkboxes (provided in the Topics tool), (2) a button with Action Type “Submit Topic Preferences” and a (3) button with Action Type “Unsubscribe From All”. All of this is present by default in the Default design.
