Key Dates
Log and visualize the milestones that shape your show's sales story
Key Dates let you mark significant milestones in a show's sales lifecycle — presale windows, opening nights, media appearances, marketing launches, and more. Once logged, these dates appear as visual markers on your Overview charts, so you can instantly see how each event shaped your sales trajectory.
Where to Find Key Dates
Key Dates live inside each individual show. To access them:
- Navigate to Shows from the sidebar.
- Open the show you want to work with.
- Click the Key Dates
The Key Dates tab displays a table of all dates you've logged for that show, including each date's title, description, and type — indicated by a color-coded dot.
Key Date Types
When adding or editing a key date, you choose from seven types. Each type has its own color, which is used consistently across the table view and on your Overview charts.

Adding a Key Date
To add a new key date:
- Click Add new in the top-right corner of the Key Dates tab.
- Set the Date. You can type a date directly or use the quick-select buttons:
- Today — sets the date to today
- First event — jumps to the first performance date for this show
- Last event — jumps to the final performance date for this show
- Select a Type from the seven options (see table above).
- Enter a Title — a short label that will appear as the tooltip when hovering the marker on your charts (e.g., "Members Presale" or "On Sale").
- Optionally, add a Description with any additional context (e.g., "Three day member's exclusive pre-sale").
- Click Create to save.
Editing and Deleting Key Dates
To edit an existing key date, click the pencil icon on the right side of any row. The same form opens, pre-filled with that date's current values. Update any fields and click Save.
To delete a key date, open the edit form and click the red Delete button. This permanently removes the date and its chart marker.
How Key Dates Appear on Your Overview
Once saved, key dates automatically appear as visual annotations on the Show Overview tab. They show up on all three time-series charts:
- Revenue by purchase date
- Average ticket price by purchase date
- Advance over time (cumulative revenue)
Each key date is represented by a vertical dashed line in the color associated with its type, with a matching colored dot at the top. Hover over any dot to see the date's title as a tooltip.
This lets you quickly connect sales patterns to real-world events — for example, seeing the sharp revenue spike that follows a General Onsale date, or the plateau that precedes a Presale opening.
Note: Key date markers are visible to anyone with access to the show in Encore Pro. They do not affect data — they are annotations only.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Key Dates
- Log key dates before your on-sale opens so your Overview chart is fully annotated from the start.
- Use descriptive titles — the title is what shows up in the chart tooltip, so "Subscriber Presale" is more useful than "Presale 1".
- Don't skip the description — it only shows in the Key Dates table, but it's a great place to add context for your team (e.g., which list received access, or which outlet ran the story).
- Add media dates retroactively when a press hit drives a visible sales spike — it creates a permanent record of what caused it.
- If two dates fall close together (like a Presale and General Onsale a few days apart), their chart markers will stack near each other. Hover each dot individually to identify them.
